What is insulin resistance?
Almost half of the population has insulin resistance with an alarming upward trend in younger people. This preventable lifestyle disease costs taxpayers billions of healthcare dollars every year, and more importantly depreciates everyone’s quality of life. So what is it? Insulin is an essential hormone that carries blood sugar to your other cells for usage or storage. When your body starts to ignore this hormone, glucose stays in the blood, triggering the pancreas to produce more insulin and so you have chronic peaks of blood sugar and insulin. This eventually leads to:
- Weight gain: fatty liver, visceral (belly) fat, obesity related cancer and diseases
- Cardiovascular disease
- Diabetes => nerve disease, kidney disease, blindness, gangrene, frequent infections, etc.
